To End All Wars (2001)

A slow, exposition heavy beginning gives way to a compelling and gripping story in To End All Wars. I’m glad I didn’t give up on this film, which is based on true events concerning British POWs during WWII. I was put off, at first, by distracting handheld camerawork and overt sentimentalism. Yet, after the film got going it came to a powerful emotional climax. To End All Wars is an inspiring story of human dignity in the face of incredible suffering. If you hang with it through the first 25 minutes or so you won’t be disappointed.
