Easy Rider (1969)

This movie is something like the mission statement of the counter-culture movement. I found it to be enjoyable, yet disturbing. The theme of “do your own thing on your own time” is powerful and compelling, but it is tainted. It is tainted by the dishonest portrayal of drug use. The idea of a simpler communion with the land and people is again undermined by the self-destructiveness of drug use. I must admit that how money and the city proved to be the main characters undoing was finely executed.
